On Thursday, April 06, we had the pleasure to welcome to our Telegram chat:

Constantin Papizh, CTO.

We asked him questions about the development of KelVPN.

Some sentences have been slightly edited for readability but the meaning has been conserved.

Summary

KelVPN is a decentralized VPN based on the Cellframe Network protocol.

KelVPN tackles the pressing issue of privacy through decentralization by operating on top of Cellframe’s decentralized network where all traffic is distributed between different nodes.

For the customer, KelVPN offers one-click access to a new level of privacy and security combined with high-speed data supporting up to 8k+ video streaming!

KelVPN is able to stand out by leveraging Cellframe’s modern post-quantum encryption that guarantees the highest-level security for KelVPN users, even when quantum computing inevitably advances to a stage of risk for most encryptions.

Introduction

Q — Ayeley Commodore-Mensah from GAINS: Let’s start by hearing a bit about you. What did you do before crypto and did you have any other previous venture in crypto?

A — Constantin from KelVPN: I come from the Southlands of Russia. I have an MS degree in Computer Science. I was into R&D and software development in engineering branches, s.a UAV systems, numerical modeling, and applied maths. The persisting institutional crisis and growing discredit of the banking sector in my local area, in contrast to the dramatic advance of the crypto industry and De-Fi worldwide manifestation, engaged me into the crypto field. In 2018, I came into DemLabs, and then from 2019, I worked on the basis of the KelVPN service.

About KelVPN

Q — Ayeley Commodore-Mensah from GAINS: What is the KelVPN project about in a few simple sentences?

A — Constantin from KelVPN: KELVPN is a kind of d-VPN (decentralized VPN) with a high-security level, good performance, and based on Cellframe blockchain. Right now, it's working based on testnet but the service itself is ready for public production.

Q — Ayeley Commodore-Mensah from GAINS: Why did you choose to build on Cellframe blockchain, as compared to others like Ethereum or BSC or Polkadot?

A — Constantin from KelVPN: It’s the only blockchain that’s designed for low-level distributed services like KelVPN. Also, it has a built-in mechanism for escrow payments that we need for VPN. Other blockchains are much more complicated for this. Here we just wrote a VPN dedicated service based on Cellframe mechanics. Also, it’s quantum-proof. That’s also important.

Another important moment is that the Cellframe node is ultra-fast software. Because we need to reduce latency, it’s important to have a high-performance basement. Can’t imagine how it could be possible with other blockchains, We’ve not measured it but I feel that the CellFrame node is the fastest node in the world.

Q — Ayeley Commodore-Mensah from GAINS: For how long have you been working on the project? And how many people are on the team?

A — Constantin from KelVPN: Since 2018, 7 members including me.

Q — Twitter user @meml97: I saw that KelVPN is the first deanon-proof and quantum-safe dVPN powered by Cellframe. Can you tell us more about this? What made you decide to be powered by Cellframe? What are the advantages KelVPN’s platform will get from this, especially in the long term?

A — Constantin from KelVPN: Deanon proof is because of the split between authorization and authentication. We have no central point when the private data could be gathered.

Quantum-proof means that we use so-called Post-Quantum encryption that’s straight enough against quantum calculations. It’s built in Cellframe SDK so we have this proof as well.

Q — Telegram user Femi Oyinloye: Do I have to pay to use KELVPN services just like other paid VPN services which are even not that reliable?

A — Constantin from KelVPN: Generally usage is almost the same. The difference is that you don’t enter your credit card for a subscription. And you don’t need to enter your email, login, password and other private information. You pay, receive a serial key that could be activated only on one device, and use it. Usage itself looks the same.

Q — Telegram user Definitely: Why is blockchain VPN better?

A — Constantin from KelVPN: It gives the platform for people to earn on providing VPN service. Also, the blockchain splits authorization and authentication so it prevents private data leaks.

Another benefit is scalability.

Q — Telegram user ∆~•••••••••••••••LittleSoul•••••••••••~∆: Is KELVPN platform free from falls or changes on a server or IP for user saturation? Can KelVPN be linked to a browser as brave and/or operate GX?

A — Constantin from KelVPN: Servers are stable enough. If no problems on the ISP side, then it’s stable enough. I had uptimes for weeks and months. But if you’ve networking problems it could switch to another IP. Usually, it does so transparently so you don’t notice anything, but first, it tries to restore the connection with the current server.

Q — Telegram user Rosemary Bianco: Will VPNs be available to everyone?

A — Constantin from KelVPN: It’s already available to everyone without restrictions, except only one — you need to pay for it.

Q — Telegram user Maximar Vallée: Can the Military-Grade Encryption really protect my data from supercomputer attack? Why are you so sure of that? How does it work?

A — Constantin from KelVPN: Yes it can. It’s based on algorithms that are required to keep all intermediate calculations till the end. So every step doubles the memory size required for brute force. So quantum hackers only require millions and billions of qubits to store intermediate calculations. There are other math tricks against quantum calculations, but the main is high quantum memory requirements.

Token

Q — Ayeley Commodore-Mensah from GAINS: What is the token use case and how does it capture the value of the ecosystem you’re building?

A — Constantin from KelVPN: $KEL tokens are necessary to fully integrate KelVPN into the Cellframe ecosystem. The tokens will also be rewarded to node runners to incentivize increased decentralization and network stability. Possible more usages like staking in Ethereum network, stay tuned.

After the integration, it will be swapped into the Cellframe native token KEL. KEL could be used to purchase VPN. It also will be used for staking. Staking is required if you want to provide VPN service and earn on this. You can stake and provide, or delegate your stake to somebody who wants to provide the service.

Also, this token could be used for savings, like any cryptocurrency, for trading on Cellframe Core Network, for governance, PoS based emission. There are possibly many other use cases.

Competitive Advantage

Q — Twitter user @meml1997: There are tons of different VPN services and that amount increases every day. So, what does KelVPN offer comparing it to the competitors that will make people choose it over all those ones we already know and use?

A — Constantin from KelVPN: As I know we’re only a decentralized VPN with modern post-quantum encryption. Also, we have a free price forming with the order book. So, the free market should give us better prices and better service quality. Shortly, it could be said that we implement service provider competitions, that nobody does as I know, especially with post-quantum encryption.

For now, we just do everything well and a little better than others. For example no annoying registrations and email subscriptions, low latency, easy blocking pass through in China, and other advantages.

Financial

Q — Ayeley Commodore-Mensah from GAINS: Did you raise funds so far? If so, how did you handle them? Are you planning to do any future raises?

A — Constantin from KelVPN: No, we didn’t raise anything, everything was done like in prehistoric times before the first ICO was run. And yes, we have such plans. Details soon will be announced.

Business Development

Q — Ayeley Commodore-Mensah from GAINS: What stage is the project at? And what should we look forward to in the coming months?

A — Constantin from KelVPN: We’re in production. The blockchain part of the project is still in testnet. We can’t invite people to earn on VPN sharing. There is no way to integrate it with your wallet and pay directly with KEL. But we have a standalone KelVPN client, for Windows, macOS, Linux, and Android. You can purchase anonymously the serial key for the client and use high-quality VPN access through our testnet.

About our plans: we want to release some software updates, then start to test stake delegation in our testnet. Next, we want to release the iOS version and update the macOS version a lot.

The next few months should be encryption updates, possible multi-hop mode, then in summer is a planned Cellchain auction. Also in summer, we’ve planned to be over with the Cellframe node’s extension and the Cellframe dashboard plugin.

Q — Twitter user @hieupro0802: Do you have any plans to attract non-crypto investors to KELVPN who are still not in the crypto world especially as a new project entering crypto. What are the plans to increase awareness about KELVPN in the non-crypto space?

A — Constantin from KelVPN: We have two usage ways. The first is 100% decentralized where you buy a token and pay for a VPN with it. The second way is 99% decentralized, where there is 1% of centralization with payment gateway, brand site, and applications. On this gateway — CDB — we process payments and release serial keys for users, without logins, passwords, emails and etc, still deanon-proof but more user-friendly.

So for a regular person, KelVPN usage is the same simple as others. Ever simpler because we don’t require the registration. Just pay with a credit card(depends on your country) or crypto, get the serial key and use it without thinking about tokens and their exchange rate

Thanks for coming in today Constantin. It was a pleasure having you in our group today, sharing all these details on KelVPN. We will be tracking your progress, and try to get our hands on some tokens when it is live. Anything else you’d like to say? Where can we follow you to stay updated? — Ayeley Commodore-Mensah from GAINS
