On Thursday, March 11, we had the pleasure to welcome to our Telegram chat:

Dmitriy Gerasimov, Project Lead.

We asked him questions about the development of the Cellframe Network.

Some sentences have been slightly edited for readability but the meaning has been conserved.

Summary

Cellframe is a Quantum-resistant layer-1 network that facilitates secure and scalable cross-chain transfers. It is quantum-safe, it uses post-quantum encryption by default and presents an API for decentralized low-level services like VPN, CDB, or multimedia streaming.

Cellframe provides interoperability by using Cell bridges to a public blockchain. Users can connect several blockchains into a single system including integration of public blockchains.

Cellframe is working to decentralize the base internet layer that dApps run on, filling the gaps in existing blockchains and pioneering new ways to approach issues like scalability and interoperability.

Introduction

Q — Ayeley‌ ‌Commodore-Mensah‌ ‌from‌ ‌GAINS:‌‌ Let’s start by hearing a bit about you. What did you do before crypto and did you have any other previous venture in crypto?

A — Dmitriy ‌from‌ ‌Cellframe Network: I have an educational background in physics but 20 years ago, I switched to software development. 15 years ago I founded an outsource software company that was focused on networking, security and embedded systems. That’s when most of the team was formed. In 2017, we transformed into a VPN startup and then in 2018 into the blockchain company — Cellframe Networks.

My own way to the crypto industry started in 2013 when I purchased some BTC to pay for hosting and VPN access. Then till 2017, I was busy with different things but always was keeping track of this subject.

About CellFrame

Q — Ayeley‌ ‌Commodore-Mensah‌‌ from GAINS:‌‌ Tell us some more about Cellframe Network. What is the project about in a few simple sentences?

A — Dmitriy ‌from‌ ‌Cellframe Network: Cellframe is a Quantum-resistant layer-1 network focused on facilitating secure and scalable cross-chain transfers. It is quantum-safe, it uses post-quantum encryption by default. Also, it presents an API for decentralized low-level services like VPN, CDB or multimedia streaming.

Q — Ayeley‌ ‌Commodore-Mensah‌‌ from GAINS:‌‌ Tell us some more about the inspiration behind Cellframe. Which gap were you looking to fill in the current market, and for how long have you been working on the project?

A — Dmitriy ‌from‌ ‌Cellframe Network: There are a lot of unsolved problems in the blockchain industry. Because of blockchain’s immutable nature, a lot of features should be planned before start. Later, it’s complicated and sometimes impossible to implement some upgrades in an already working blockchain. Because of this, we have a lot of different blockchains where every protocol resolves 1–2 issues but not the whole modern pack.

The first problem is a quantum threat and yes, it’s related to quantum physics. That inspired me first to develop my own protocol because my background tells me that the threat is real. So-called quantum computers can utilize some quantum effect and gain calculation performance on unreachable peaks, inaccessible for classic computers. To protect blockchain cryptography we implement Post-Quantum cryptography and try to make it as flexible as possible to be able to add new algorithms on the fly and even use a few different at the same time!

There are few more problems — sharding, microtransaction for dedicated services, dedicated services itself, secure bridging, and cross-chain communications. On every subject, we selected some best blockchain practices and implemented them.

At the moment we’re in a testing stage where most of all functions are over and working, just left to polish everything, complete some less important things, pass intrusion tests, etc. To get to this stage, we spent about 3 years deep in coding. So 3 years of development and about a year of testing.

Q — Ayeley‌ ‌Commodore-Mensah‌ ‌from‌ ‌GAINS:‌‌ How many people are on the team?

A — Dmitriy ‌from‌ ‌Cellframe Network: About 15, if add everybody who is related to the project.

Q — Twitter user @anhtuan88971504: What is your background and how did you come to the idea to create the Cellframe Network project? Why did you choose the name Cellframe Network? Does it have special meaning and is there any story behind this name?

A — Dmitriy ‌from‌ ‌Cellframe Network: My primary education is physics but I left and switched to programming. Then, about 20 years of development in different industries: embedded, multimedia streaming, databases, networking, security, drivers and etc. During these years about 10 years, I was leading the outsource software development company where I formed my current team. Last 5 years before Blockchain we were working on multimedia streaming and VPN projects, where we started to make our own SDK.

In 2017 there was a successful demonstration of 5 and then 7 qubit computers, so everybody who was related to physics found that soon there will be problems with classic cryptography. That inspired me first but after I found that there are a lot of different problems in blockchain industries. Its bleeding edge technologies were wonderful and amazing for me as a programmer. So that all motivated me to found Cellframe Network

The story begins with the name — everything is simple. CELL- that’s our lowest shard level name. Frame — from Framework because we’re doing the framework for developers. Network — because it's a network. So merged together we get Cellframe Network as a result.

Q — Telegram user @Ksalom95: Is it really necessary to implement Quantum Security in blockchain? Could it be that it is not totally secure, or is this technology necessary to create the solutions that Blockchain really requires to develop its full potential?

A — Dmitriy ‌from‌ ‌Cellframe Network: Yes, it’s really necessary. Different specialists say it’s about 5–7years until elliptic curves will be cracked. Yes, there are security problems with the new algorithms. That’s why we add a lot of them and leave the ability to add more in the future. Also, we give you the ability to protect your wallet with few different algorithms at the same time so if one of them will be hacked with classic cryptoanalysis, the rest will stay and keep your savings safe.

Q — Twitter user @Nuralimi16: On one of the Cellframe media, I read the Lego feature for blockchain, Python over C, what do you mean by this feature, and how does it function?

A — Dmitriy ‌from‌ ‌Cellframe Network: About Python: We’ve selected this language to show how our SDK could be easy for community developers and 3rd party organizations. Python is the most popular high-level language. We’ve selected this and JavaScript as the first high-level languages for our SDK bindings.

Bindings could be two types. First is the library: Cellframe SDK could be linked as a static or dynamic library and used for your own software — node, wallets, etc. Just follow the GPLv3 license or pay for a commercial license (we have double licensing ) for enterprise usage.

The second type of binding is plugins. Plugins are run inside Cellframe Node (that's backend plugins) or Cellframe Dashboard (frontend plugins). They act in the context of nesting applications and could extend their functions with high-level API.

Q — Telegram user ꧁ ᒍᑌᗩᑎ ᔕᗩᑎᗪOᐯᗩᒪ ꧂: Can you mention the benefits of the “Cellframe” blockchain by not having an owner address? Wouldn’t it generate a bit of mistrust? And if no one has a private key for a contract with all the funds, how would they access them in the event of an emergency?

A — Dmitriy ‌from‌ ‌Cellframe Network: Oh, no, every wallet has its own address in Cellframe Network. It was about the idea of truly decentralized services that have no own address and could be run by any service(master) node with its own address.

Q — Telegram user Cristóbal Zamora: Cellframe offers Interoperability to connect with public blockchains. How many chains can be connected simultaneously in a single system? Also, can you mention which chains are compatible with it?

A — Dmitriy ‌from‌ ‌Cellframe Network: No limitation on-chain number. Because of sharding, if one cell (lowest sharding level) will be overloaded it splits into two new cells when the old one goes away to archive.

For cross-chains, the only limit is cryptography — you should have the same encryption algorithm as another blockchain has. Because we’re collecting them all, we have fewer limits than everybody else

Q — Telegram user Mamarbari: Is Platform suitable for Newbies in the crypto world?

A — Dmitriy ‌from‌ ‌Cellframe Network: We have a frontend team experienced in UX/UI. As an example you can look on KelVPN — it’s simple and usable for newbies. Just pay with a credit card or cryptocurrency and use it, without registration, just enter the serial code that you’ve purchased. Inside the application, I believe everything else is also simple.

Q — Telegram user 🐆sahroni🐆: Any project can use Cellframe services to block liquidity for any period of time. My question is, Any project using your services must create some CellFrame backup or partnership with Cellframe? During these lockup periods is there any performance or benefits offered to the user?

A — Dmitriy ‌from‌ ‌Cellframe Network: Lockups are needed to provide services. To use a service, as a company or person, you need only tokens to pay for. For example, it’s possible to bring up your own VPN brand without your own servers and DevOps to control them. You just bring up the site with payment, accept, purchase some CELL tokens and stack them for payments for your user.

Token

Q — Ayeley‌ ‌Commodore-Mensah‌ ‌from‌ ‌GAINS:‌‌ What is the token use case and how does it capture the value of the ecosystem you’re building?

A — Dmitriy ‌from‌ ‌Cellframe Network: Our token could be used to become a master node, bridge node, service node, fisherman, or any other role that requires staking. The most interesting thing is to delegate your stake for a service node that has no such stake and get some percent from its profit.

Also, this token will be like the entry in the Cellframe ecosystem, where it could be exchanged on other Cellframe-based tokens or used to purchase some dedicated service, like VPN, file storage, AI calculations, etc.

All this we call native cryptonomics is more than just usual tokenomics but including native trading and service providing, like economics in the real world.

Competitive Advantage

Q — Telegram userS P Λ C Ξ: Can you talk more about the Cellframe SDK? Can you compare Cellframe SDK with Cosmos SDK?

A — Dmitriy ‌from‌ ‌Cellframe Network: It’s developed on pure C so has fewer problems with binding on other languages. Also, it's not just blockchain SDK but has also networking part, some common usage protocols realization, I/O multiplexing subsystem, streaming protocols and of cause cryptography library with a lot of different encryptions.

Finances

Q — Ayeley‌ ‌Commodore-Mensah‌ ‌from‌ ‌GAINS:‌‌ Did you raise funds so far? If so, how did you handle them? Are you planning to do any future raises?

Venture round is closed with 1M, the public round opens tomorrow so we’re only at the beginning of the process.

Business Development

Q — Ayeley‌ ‌Commodore-Mensah‌ ‌from‌ ‌GAINS:‌‌ What stage is the project at? And what should we look forward to in the coming months?

A — Dmitriy ‌from‌ ‌Cellframe Network: As I said before, we’re in the testing stage. It’s the finished road to the mainnet that should be launched at the end of the year.

In the coming months, we should release graphical wallet beta, ports on iOS and FreeBSD, test bridges with Substrate and BTC protocols, and if lucky first WASM API for verification and smart contracts.

Thank you Dmitriy. It was a pleasure having you in our group today. Anything else you’d like to say? Where can we follow you to stay updated? — Ayeley Commodore-Mensah from GAINS
